This book is a practical review of a range of nervous system diseases, with their clinical and pathological features presented and discussed. The editors write that their purposes in developing this volume are:

  • To provide quick reference via bulleted summaries of key facts that are supported by multiple representative photographs on topics of interest in the major areas of neuropathology
  • To provide rapid access to a range of nervous system disorders for trainees and practitioners

It is essentially a practical reference created by trainees for trainees that Dr. Yachnis hopes “will be of ‘high-yield’ to current and future pathologists and clinicians in the medical neurosciences,” as he writes in the Acknowledgements section.

This book contains 54 chapters organized into ten sections. The material was authored by the Drs. Yachnis and Rivera-Zengotita – the editors of this volume – and six neuropathology trainees (named at the end of this book review) at the University of Florida.

The ten sections of this book are:

  1. Basic Reactions
  2. Developmental Disorders
  3. Cerebrovascular Disorders
  4. Trauma
  5. Brain Tumors
  6. Infectious Diseases
  7. Neurodegenerative Disorders
  8. Demyelinating Diseases
  9. Toxic, Nutritional, Metabolic Diseases
  10. Neuromuscular Disorders

Within the chapters you will find a large number of images of the various disorders as you study their features and derive other information on them. These images are not only black-and-white and color drawings, illustrations, and x-rays, but also actual photos of anatomical parts

These are some of the benefits of using this book:

  • Find information quickly and easily with a template, easy-to-reference format
  • Confirm your diagnoses with excellent color photographs that demonstrate the classic appearance of each disease
  • Find the answers you need fast with concise, bulleted text
