A major concern among women is the preservation of fertility when they have cancer. This concern, and how to address it, is discussed in chapter 10, Female Fertility Preservation Surgery, authored by Sara Arian, Rebecca Flyckt, and Tommaso Falcone.

The authors of this chapter point out that according to statistics of the National Cancer Institute, about 10 percent of new cases of invasive cancers in the United States are diagnosed in women of reproductive age who plan to undergo cancer treatments.

While patient survival rates have been increasing in recent decades, many treatment options include chemotherapy and radiation, which can negatively a woman’s reproductive health and her ability to bear children.

The authors point out in this chapter that there are three major fertility preservation strategies that can be used either singly or in combination. These include medical options, surgical options, or assisted reproductive technologies (including oocyte and embryo crypto-preservation as the standard options) available to preserve the fertility of young women with cancer.

This is one of the many important issues discussed in this book. There are several others, and you can take a look at the chapter list below which ones are most important to you currently.

When we typed in ‘reproductive surgery’ on Amazon, we found only 306 books, whereas we usually find thousands of them, sometimes even tens of thousands of books. And which book among the 306 pertaining to ‘Reproductive Surgery’ was on the very top?  The one you reading about !

What does being on the very top mean for this book: – Reproductive Surgery – The Society of Reproductive Surgeons’ Manual? It plainly and simply means: this is the most popular and most widely read book on the topic of reproductive surgery!
